 Miss Deaf Texas Tara McAvoy
Miss Deaf Texas Tara McAvoy was struck by a train and died Monday. The train conductor said that they blew the horn constantly right up until she was hit.
This illustrates a sad but true danger Deaf people face every day just crossing the street. We may never hear you until it's too late. I personally have nearly been run over by speeders in SBTS's parking lots, all because I never heard them coming. And this happens to me several times
per month. No, it doesn't always matter if you look both ways; if you never hear a car coming out of a blind spot, you can't protect yourself. It is one of the many challenges that Deaf individuals simply accept as a way of life.
